SARAH CERQUI 

My cake journey began having grown up in a small country town Jandowae where my beautiful Mum & Nanna Rita were always cooking for other people.  My mum was well known for her quality cooking & especially her ginger fluff sponges and her coconut, pineapple caramel & fresh cream frangipani tarts.

I witnessed & would sometimes help these two ladies bake for days for regular local fundraising events. They would always whip up their regular favourite crowd pleasers & would trial & add new recipes to the mix.


Living in the country meant keeping cooking simple. The essence of my background in baking came from a start where cakes & treats were delicious because of the use of fresh free range eggs, 100% butter, fresh cream & home grown seasonal fruits.

During school days, art was one of my strong subjects & in all chapters of my life I have had great joy in being creative & seeing my creativity being enjoyed by others. Cakes bring it all together.

The birth of Oh For Heavens Cake was the net result of my great role models who were country cooks who taught me if it doesn’t taste great it doesn’t matter what it looks like, my wonderful teachers including a dessert chef in Brisbane, some local Toowoomba cake decorators, being creative and the desire to push myself and my cooking to levels I have never been.

 
I only really got into cakes about five years ago as I had an empty nest… how to fix an empty nest, buy cartons of eggs. I lost my mum & my children all moved away around the same time so I decided to get busy , take on some courses, learn some tricks & do the Aussie thing & “have a go”. I have a council approved commercial kitchen where I pump out the music & bake & create. I strive to do my absolute best on every single cake but at times, weather & mediums increase the challenge but I do strive to do my absolute best on every cake.

My custom made cakes are made one at a time from scratch using old fashioned recipes free from packet mixes & preservatives. Flavour, moisture content & freshness is everything. Delivery to the door is offered. Time is taken to ensure every cake is not only scrumptious & mouth-watering but unique & an individual work of art.  My cakes are edible art.  I pride myself in the fact that my cakes are all preservative free & although the first impression & the decorating touches are clearly visible, the inside taste & quality of the cake is of paramount importance.


Like life  “it is lovely when the outside beauty catches your eye…. But it is the inside beauty that is the most important thing”. I use top shelf ingredients & the finest of imported Belgian chocolate.
 
I have one of the best jobs as I am involved in life celebrations. I feel honoured creating special cakes that are usually generous in size , double as dessert , unique, individualised , taste amazing & often have wow factor but most of all I am apart of creating sweet memories of special events when happiness is at large.

My daughter in law had organised a 30th birthday cake for our son. Kim sent through a picture of what she wanted, a character from one of the computer games he follows. What Sarah created is beyond words. A life like statue with so much detail, it was amazing. We went to collect it and Sarah took the time to explain every component, what each part was made of, we could even eat the eyes! We were standing there listening to her going through it all and both my husband and I were stunned and in complete aww. It was truly a masterpiece. Not only did it look so real it tasted delicious.

 

The attention to detail was astounding. I have to say that Sarah is one of the loveliest ladies I have ever dealt with and her passion for her work shines through. 

Sarah is not just a cake maker, she is an artist with an enormous amount of talent.
